AhlulBayt News Agency: The Ministry of Information and Culture of the Taliban government has announced that it has shut down the private TV channel "Rah-e-Farda," which is affiliated with the Shia community in Afghanistan.
The ministry explained that the channel's operations were halted due to complaints from its employees about not being paid their salaries.
The ministry also stated that the legal case related to the TV channel has been referred to court, and the channel will remain closed until the court issues a ruling.
According to the ministry, the employees and journalists of the channel have complained that their salaries and benefits have not been paid for years.
The Ministry of Information and Culture further mentioned that the Media Complaints Commission had summoned the channel's officials several times and advised them to pay the employees' salaries and benefits.
Meanwhile, a source from Rah-e-Farda channel confirmed this action by the Taliban government in an interview with an ABNA reporter. However, the source did not provide further details on whether the channel's closure was due to the employees' complaints or if there was another reason for the decision.
This is the second time that the Taliban has shut down the operations of the Rah-e-Farda channel. The first time was in 2022 when Taliban forces sealed the channel's office doors and demanded that the channel's officials pay 20 years of back taxes to allow the channel to resume operations.
Rah-e-Farda is the second-largest Shia TV network in Afghanistan, with a large audience among the Shia community in the country.
